hello again
With Joesph Kim’s prodding, I’ve returned to the world of tumblr (hopefully more consistently than I’ve done in the past year…)  It’s amazing how much one can change in just a few months. As the task of documenting my changes became more daunting, it became even harder to return to my tumblr to do so. It’s funny how I can procrastinate with anything, even with...

response
Response was my first breath of fresh air in a long time. From leading my family group and hearing their stories and their vulnerabilities to washing their feet and having my feet washed to just simply praying and praising with them, Response was a spiritual workout. During the brief three days and two nights, God challenged me to continue growing in faith in Him, showing me things I did not...

emergency room
The famed emergency room… filled with supposed hustle and bustle and renowned for the inevitable hours of waiting to actually see your physician. One of my residents busted his lip tonight, and I went with him and one of my other residents to the ER. The nurses made fleeting impressions, and the medical student, resident, and attending made lasting impressions. We first met the resident, a...

acceptance
Over these years, I’ve started to realize that I’m not naturally a curious person. I accept what I’m told without much consideration, and I don’t evaluate what I’m told as much as I should. I think this really contributes to my gullibility because I accept easily and trust easily. Today in my Lit class, my professor gave us a hypothetical situation. If a medical...

time
These past few weeks have been the most academically unproductive weeks I’ve had this semester. In retrospect, I should probably be paying attention to Biochem lectures and writing my papers earlier than the few days before they’re due.  While thinking about how I spent my time, I can’t say that I actually have regrets.  I’ve become a lot closer to my boy residents, and...

God and His ability to speak to me and reach out to me even when I want to be left alone A family who loves me and cares for me more than I can imagine, who dotes on me and prays for me even while I’m hundreds of miles away Friends who can make me smile through my tears, who humble me when I feel like I’m on top, who listen to me rant and complain until even I’m sick of hearing my voice, who keep...

friends
3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.  7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and,...

“Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him. -Psalm 105:4”
– It’s easy to start off with optimism and excitement; when you can see the possibilities God has in store for this semester, this year. It’s also easy to lose sight of this vision when so many other things begin clouding your view.

Day 16 : Your first kiss, in great detail
HAHAH When I was little, this boy’s parents were kidding and were talking about how the two of us should be arranged to get married. When we were little, he was really cute (now, not so much…) and I was really cute too, so when I was four or five, his parents were trying to convince me to kiss him! Being the good, obedient daughter, I obliged! It was awkward and I don’t think he...

Day 15 : Your dreams, in great detail
I don’t remember many of my dreams, so I’m going to interpret this as my hopes, dreams, goals, etc. I dream of becoming a doctor who will be able to lessen the disparities gap in healthcare. Sometimes I dream about becoming a urologist and performing surgeries and working in a clinic, and sometimes I dream about becoming a pediatrician and working with kids for the rest of my life....

Day 12 : What’s in your bag, in great detail
My backpack:  It has two notebooks, one for my Education class tomorrow and one for my Biochem class tomorrow. I also have a lab notebook, and three pens: my favorite ballpoint pen, my Sharpie pen, and a blue ballpoint pen. It also has a purple clicky highlighter and my array of amino acid flashcards. My precious planner will also be in my bag after this entry full of this weeks many appointments...

Day 11 : Your siblings, in great detail
I only have one brother, but I couldn’t have asked for a better brother. He’s 27, engaged, and an intern at Harbor Hospital in LA. He’s insanely smart, and I’m often in disbelief that we’re related. It’s often confirmed by how similar our thoughts are and our odd senses of humor. My brother knows me very very well, and he spoils me like crazy. He buys me nice,...

Day 10: What you wore in great detail
Will do Day 09 later This morning, I got up at 7:30am, and I had to go into lab, so I wore my je t’aime navy blue shirt and jeans with sneakers. Then, I changed because I wanted to go to the gym, so I was wearing my RLHS shirt and running shorts, but… I fell asleep, so I just put on jeans and went to church after I woke up.  Yea…

Day 06: Your day, in great detail
Wow, what a suitable prompt for today.  This morning, I woke up at 7:45 to get ready for my 8:30 on East campus. I was going to eat breakfast, but then I realized that my soy milk has been open for more than a week and I shouldn’t drink it anymore. I got to my class at 8:20, and we had a quiz that the professor ended up throwing out anyway because not everyone found the readings. Fail....

Day 05: Your definition of love, in great detail
What is love?? Baby don’t hurt me, no more… Haha kidding. This reminded me of the GMCC video for CALL Retreat.  My personal definition of love is… a willingness to sacrifice everything for the benefit of the one/thing you love. It requires patience, kindness, humility, honesty, trust, hope, and perseverance (1 Corinthians 13). God is the origin of love, and I can find His love...

Day 04: What you ate today, in great detail
This morning, I had some chocolate before I ate at Alpine Bagles. Then, at around11, I got a Denver Omelet on Plain, toasted! It’s the only thing I get from Alpine, and so good:) It’s basically eggs, green peppers, onions, and ham on a bagel. Mmmmm  Then, at 5:30pm, I went to Vita with Dan and Charles. I got a yummy margherita pizza (pictures to come on food blog). Then, I came home...

Day 03: Your parents, in great detail
The parentals!  I’m basically the spitting image of my mom from 32 years ago, except chubbier. hahaha. Before she came to America, she was a programming teacher. While my dad was in grad school getting settled in, my mom continued to raise my brother and take care of my grandparents. I honestly can’t imagine how she withstood that while she was only like.. 27 or 28. She started grad...

Day 02: Your first love, in great detail
Hmm, I’ve actually been pondering this for a good part of the day. A lot of things have crossed my mind. I could say God, my parents, my brother, or even McDonald’s, but in all honesty, I think my first true affection for anything is actually for my blanket. Obviously, I love God and my family and of course, McDonald’s very very much, but most of those were affections realized...

Day 01: Introduce yourself
How vague!  My name is Angela, and I’m from Troy, Michigan. I’m a junior (!) at Duke University, and I’m a Program II major. While the title of my program sounds like the title of a thesis, it is the best idea I’ve come up with at Duke thus far. It’s called “Health Disparities in the US and Their Effects on Child Development.” Basically, I care about...
