Day 01: Introduce yourself
How vague!
My name is Angela, and I’m from Troy, Michigan. I’m a junior (!) at Duke University, and I’m a Program II major. While the title of my program sounds like the title of a thesis, it is the best idea I’ve come up with at Duke thus far. It’s called “Health Disparities in the US and Their Effects on Child Development.” Basically, I care about inequalities and how they affect children’s health. Using this, I think I want to become a pediatrician, but I also really liked shadowing in Urology and I still like aspects of health policy…
I really like kids; I find them completely adorable, even when they are not adorable and are acting like spoiled brats. I especially enjoy mentoring young girls interested in math and science and helping them become more interested in math and science, so I’m part of FEMMES. FEMMES also has an extremely long and intimidating name that does not reveal much about what we do, but it’s called “Females Excelling More in Math, Engineering, and Science”. My parents constantly comment about the length of the names of the activities that I partake in, but I love them (the activities… and my parents).
I grew up with my favorite people from Troy, which means that I’ve known them for 10 years now! I love them to death, and I love how our friendship can remain dynamic but constant despite the distance. I love the new friendships I’ve formed at school, and I have definitely learned so much about myself through the conversations and trials I’ve faced with my friends.
First and foremost, I love God. I also happen to love food, be it pictures, smells, or tastes. Except for spicy foods… yuck. I like to take pictures with my SLR, but I traded with my dad because my dad really really really wanted to use a digital SLR. I still take pictures of food using a digital camera, and most of the time, I’m pretty satisfied. But! I’m easily pleased. I like the little things in life, and I’m very very easily amused. I’m not amused, however, when people mess with my planner or the arrangement of my pens. aka I’m kind of OCD.
mk I’m done talking about myself.
